Fitness Entrepreneur Bootcamp part 2

Just a week ago I was lucky enough to listen to an amazing array of speakers including amongst others Dax Moy, Mr Boxercise Andy Wake and Charlotte Ord and Alwyn and Rachel Cosgrove who own Results Fitness in California.

Dax runs programmes where he takes clients away to Thailand for a week to work intensively with him on nutrition, exercise, mindset and more. He is able to charge £17,000 per week – yes that’s right, for this elite service by being EXCELLENT at what he does, an only working on areas that he truly has a PASSION about.

Andy Wake talked about he made Boxercise such a well-known brand and all the “brick walls” he has faced over the years on his journey. It was a good reminder for us all that sometimes we need to just be tough and break through those brick walls instead of turning around and walking away.

Charlotte talked about her PEGASUS principle  - “Peristent Energy Graft and Service underlines Success”. She is an excellent example of how if you work hard and surround yourself with talent you can achieve your desires.

I particularly enjoyed Rachel’s presentation about training females and how to have vision and focus about what you want to achieve. I liked her comment “be the Queen Bee not the busy bee” about using time efficiently. After we heard her speak I managed to ask her why she thought women shy away from strength training

Last year Rachel launched her book “The Female Body Breakthrough” and she has been on numerous TV channels talking about it.

I am still buzzing from such an amazing weekend and in part 3 I will explain how impressed I was with my room mate who showed total focus in the challenges that she faced during the weekend….

An AMAZING weekend – FEB part 1

I am still trying to catch my breath after an amazing weekend at Fitness Entrepreneur Bootcamp. Fantastic speakers, great fitness professionals and such a positive energy for 3 days.

I was lucky enough to interview Rachel Cosgrove, author of The Female Body Breakthrough (more on that in part 2) and also meet Celebrity Branding expert Nick Nanton (pictured below).

We hooked up a Ztrainer on the door to the conference room we were in for people to have a go. Here is a short video of Nick using the Ztrainer for the first time. It is the perfect solution for a busy traveller like him to be able to take his training with him in hotel rooms or outdoors.

Part 2 coming soon….

Do you have shoulder pain?

Rick Kaselj is the go-to-guy for fitness professionals around the world who want to know about exercises that will prevent and rehabilitate injuries. He recently asked me to write a guest post for his blog explaining how important it is for us to get a balanced approach to our bodies. Many people neglect working several muscles in the back and shoulders in favour of the “mirror” muscles such as the chest. This muscle imbalance can lead to shoulder pain and by using the Ztrainer we can address many of these issues.

Ztrainer supports Stroke charity

We are very happy to be supporting the fantastic work that A.R.N.I do with Stroke survivors by donating a Ztrainer to the ARNI raffle…

As part of our effort at the ARNI Charity (Action for Rehabilitation from Neurological Injury) we are starting National Stroke Awareness Day early by attempting to raise £7,000 to buy an E-Link Evaluation and Exercise system for use by our stroke survivors.

These are made by Biometrics Ltd, and we have seen these working successfully in specialist clinics for a few years now. We know that being able to buy a system for use in the community will enable us to have a much better way to train and measure progress over time of our stroke patients and accelerate their drive towards independence…

To do this, we have produced a fun ONLINE RAFFLE with 50 prizes (one of these is a Z-trainer) to be won – with a total of £2000. We have done this by taking advantage of our links with kind manufacturers of strength training equipment, experts in stroke and physical fitness professionals.

We would be so very grateful if you would check out this link!

http://arni.uk.com/Grip%20Strength%20Tools%20Raffle%202011.html

and if you have paypal, just donate anything you like by pressing the button – and if you would like to buy tickets to make it more fun and enter the draw, go right ahead!!

* We also have lots more books on stroke (Understanding Stroke by Sassoon) to give away and we will send you one free on request if you don’t want to enter the draw but want to donate something towards our goal of raising £7,000 to buy an Exercise and Evaluation system (viewable on http://www.biometricsltd.com/). Just note this to us as you donate…

If you don’t have paypal, just make out a cheque to ‘ARNI Trust’ and send it to our address – thank you SO much!

The Stroke Awareness day (10th May) coincides with ARNI’s 10th Birthday – we have been running since 2001 and have helped thousands of people across the UK, Europe, US and many other countries to regain significant physical function after stroke. If you haven’t heard about what we are up to lately, do please have a look at our latest newsletter:

http://arni.uk.com/images/ARNInewsletterJan2011REALPDF.pdf

One out of 20 people will have a stroke – and we aim to there for YOU if have one. We really need your help to support functional recoveries better.

Tune into the raffle link above, and also do forward this email to some contacts if you can and/or help us publicise this appeal on facebook etc etc, with a request to your contacts to do the same! We’d like to reach as many friends as possible…

Thank you SO much…

Water

I often say to people the easiest thing you can do on your journey to improved health and wellbeing is to drink more water and although many people find it a challenge at first, they soon realise how beneficial this simple step is. 70% of our bodies are made of water so if we are not giving our bodies the hydration they require how can we expect to feel and perform at an optimal level? Athletes monitor hydration levels very carefully so why don’t we pay the same level of attention to the amount of fluid we intake (and excrete!).

Water is lost in our bodies through respiration (breathing), sweating, urinating, bowel movements and even tears! We need water for all the chemical processes in our body including burning fat so please read on if you would like to learn more. Water comes into our bodies through what we drink and also eat. Vegetables are high in water content which is one reason to eat plenty every day. Some fluids we drink dehydrate us as they are diuretic in nature, ie they make us wish to urinate, such as alcohol, tea and coffee, so we need an extra glass of water each time we have one.

Some symptoms of being dehydrated include headaches, dry mouth, lack of concentration, constipation, skin problems, hunger, strong body odour, low energy and even muscle soreness. An easy way to check your hydration levels is to look at your urine – pale straw colour and odourless is the ideal. Dark and smelly means you need to drink more, and if you only go once or twice a day then you are very dehydrated. If you take vitamin supplements that contain B vitamins these can make your urine quite yellow so that’s different. At first when you start drinking more water you may notice you go to the toilet more. This usually settles down once your body gets used to it but when you eat a “clean” diet that does not contain processed foods you will not be taking in much salt so you may wish to add a tiny pinch of celtic sea salt to your water to help your body retain some of the water. You won’t taste it and best sources of healthy salt are www.naturalsaltseller.co.uk. We very often confuse thirst with being hungry so make sure you always drink a glass of water when you are hungry, then if you are still hungry eat something.

Aim to take in at least 2 litres of water a day – that’s 4 of the small 500ml bottles. In order to create a new habit of regularly drinking water one of the easiest way is to carry water with you. I always have some small bottles in the fridge and just grab one to take with me when I leave the house. If you are at work you can take a big 2 litre bottle and make sure you drink it all by the end of the day. At home work out how many glasses you need to drink and write down each time you have one so you ensure you reach your daily total. Maybe have a jug in the fridge if you like it cold. Herb and fruit teas do count towards this total and hot water with a slice of lemon and fresh ginger is a great way to start the day and kickstart your liver. When you are exercising you need to take more water in, ideally about an hour before and then top up during and especially after your workout – approx 125ml every 15 mins of exercise. If you are a large person you will need more than a small person so each person is individual.

Bottled, filtered or tap? Anything is good if you’ve not been drinking much at all but bottled or filtered, eg Brita filter, is the best as there are quite a few nasties in our water such as chlorine (which can affect thyroid gland) and even estrogens from the contraceptive pill that is getting into the water system. If you are refilling water bottles then aim for ones designed to be refilled such as SIGG aluminium bottles or BPA free plastic bottles that I prefer. This website is a good resource and it’s where I got my “aladin” bottle www.reusablebottle.co.uk

Time flies – last month was our “official” first year anniversary and we would like to say a very BIG thank you to everyone who has had some part, however small, in our success. It’s been a challenging year, there have been several sharp learning curves along the way, some mistakes made, some decisions that turned out better than we expected and still lots to do! Here’s looking forward to an even better year ahead.

“Don’t wait until everything is just right. It will never be perfect. There will always be challenges, obstacles and less than perfect conditions. Get started now. With each step you take, you will grow stronger and stronger, more and more skilled, more and more self-confident and more and more successful.”
~ Mark Victor Hansen

How has your year been?
